Who funds services from Mainstay?

Mainstay services are funded through a variety of sources such as:

  • State of Washington - Division of Vocational Rehabilitation
  • King County - Division of Developmental Disabilities
  • School Districts
  • Private Pay

The agencies listed above also refer individuals to Mainstay for employment services. Private Pay is an option for families who choose to pay on their own and not use government funding.

Does Mainstay provide transportation?

Mainstay does not provide transportation to and from work. Sometimes, as part of the "getting employed" process, Mainstay staff has escorted job seekers to interviews with employers or transported a job seeker to team meetings. We have also provided bus transportation training in certain situations. If ACCESS Transportation is needed, parents, home staff and caretakers make travel arrangements.

Is Mainstay public or private?

Mainstay is a public agency funded primarily by government sources. In fact, our offices are housed at Seattle Central Community College.

How many people work at Mainstay?

We have a total of 12 staff members. The job titles are as follows:

How long does it take to get a job?

We cannot say specifically the length of time that it takes to get someone employed as this is based on many factors. Typically, the average time it takes for a participant to get a job is anywhere between 3 weeks to 3 months, or sometimes it may take longer. During this time of employment activity, Mainstay encourages full participation from the employment team: the employment counselor, the job seeker, vocational case manager, family members, and other relevant contacts.

Does Mainstay serve individuals with specific kinds of disabilities?

Actually, Mainstay works with individuals with all types of disabilities from various ethnic backgrounds, cultures and interests. However, the majority of the individuals that Mainstay serves have developmental disabilities.
